The 35-hour problem

Professional drivers don't take courses, they collect hours.

Every professional driver in the Netherlands has to complete 35 hours of Code 95 periodic training per 5 years, spread over modules of 7 hours a day. That sounds simple until you track a few hundred drivers per transport company, with different start years, different modules completed and different remaining balances.

Trainiq records the number of Code 95 hours per course, adds them to each driver automatically as soon as they are marked present (the instructor scans a QR code), and shows the driver and their employer how far along they are in the 5-year cycle. When a driver's deadline approaches, employer + driver get an automatic reminder with available modules.

How many hours of Code 95 periodic training are legally required? +

Every professional driver (licence category C, C1, D, D1) must complete 35 hours in each 5-year cycle to keep driving professionally. The hours are spread over modules of usually 7 hours per day, with popular topics such as the digital tachograph, load securing, fuel saving and dealing with aggression. Trainiq records the hours per course per driver and automatically keeps track of where each driver stands in their 5-year cycle.

How does Trainiq record attendance for Code 95 periodic training? +

After booking, the participant receives a unique QR code by e-mail. On the course day the instructor scans that QR code with their phone or laptop, without a paper attendance list. The system records the attendance, adds the Code 95 hours to the driver's balance, and generates a certificate automatically. Without a valid scan the hours do not count, so there are no manual corrections afterwards.

Does Trainiq automatically notify the CBR when a driver has completed the 35 hours? +

Trainiq records the hours achieved, modules attended and the cycle's expiry date per driver, and exports them to a PDF report that is ready for an inspection by the CBR, the Dutch driving licence authority. A direct connection to the CBR's reporting portal (TOP Internet) for automatic notification is on the roadmap; until then every certificate can be submitted manually through that portal.

Does Trainiq work with e-learning modules alongside classroom training? +

Yes. Trainiq supports three delivery modes per course, namely classroom, e-learning or blended, and links each type to its own completion logic. For blended Code 95 modules (for example 4.5 hours of home study + 3 hours in the classroom) the certificate is only issued once both parts are complete. Trainiq has an API integration with aNewSpring for the e-learning environment.
